George Leef‘s most recent paper, “The Overselling of Higher Education,” is generating a buzz.  The message that a university education isn’t all it’s cracked up to be seems to be hitting a chord with individuals on both sides of the political spectrum. Rightfully so, I should say.  Scarce resources flowing to a product that is inefficient and whose value has declined seems like the makings of a failed company; that is if we treat higher education like we would a business. The Foundation for Economic Freedom, the Library of Economics and Liberty’s blog, EconLog, the fee-paying messageboard, Education Consumers Clearing House, Campus Report Online, Education News Update, FrontPage Magazine — distributed by: CASNET, a free, moderated email list, is a project of the National Association of Scholars (nas.org) and the California Association of Scholars (calscholars.org) – and TCS Daily’s discussion forum all plugged George’s paper, whether through a discussion board, full posting, or direct link. George even got some good air-time on Fox News this past Saturday. And if you want to split social philosophies, read Monsieur Fitzs’s File; he totally misses the boat here. In fact, you can barely see him waving offshore.
