The AG’s office announced they had investigated and closed 70 Medicaid fraud cases in the last twelve months. Yield:

  • 26 convictions
  • 9 civil settlements
  • $30 million recovered

In 2004, the Medicaid investigators obtained 35 convictions and
recovered $19 million. This is important work, but represents just one
percent of total Medicaid spending. The problem is the
program–including state and federal expansions of eligibility and
practices such as Medicaid planning.
