According to the 2020 North Carolina Teacher Working Conditions Survey:

  • 38% of teachers say that their students do not follow the rules of conduct at their school
  • 34% of teachers say that school administrators do not consistently enforce rules for student conduct
  • 36% of teachers say that physical conflicts are a problem at their school
  • 42% of teachers say that bullying is a problem at their school
  • 37% of teachers say that cyberbullying is a problem at their school

According to the Consolidated Report, 2018-19:

  • The number and rate of crimes reported on North Carolina school campuses have steadily decreased over the last several years.
  • The number of reportable crimes on high school campuses decreased by 11% from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019.
  • The high school crime rate decreased 9.0%, a significant decrease from the previous year’s decrease of 2%.
  • The rate of reported acts of crime for both grades K-13 and grades 9-13 is at its lowest in five years.
  • That said, assault resulting in serious injury increased by 70.5% (+30 acts) between 2018 and 2019.
  • Assault on school personnel increased by 18.5% (+233 acts) between 2018 and 2019.
  • Sexual offenses (+16 acts) and sexual assault (+24 acts) have increased by over 20% between 2018 and 2019.

Average teacher salaries have increased from $44,990 (2013-14) to $54,682 (2019-20), a 21.5% increase.
