    Now That I Have Your Attention . . .

Politics, it has been said, is the art of compromise. That would be nice. Politics today is usually seen as a circus-like obstacle to good governance. It was therefore refreshing to read the latest Mumpower E-Express in which he states that the rationales for positions on illegal immigration are excuses…

Poetry – er, America – Slam

While victims of homicide are dropping like flies, the political activists in Asheville are caught up in passionate interpretations of poetry. It all started when conservative Bill Fishburne convinced city council he had a strong enough background in art appreciation to win an appointment to the Public Art Board. This…

    Priorities

In an unfortunate synchronicity, Asheville city government was, prompted by citizen inquiry, compiling a report on traffic safety as the same week the city experienced its sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth homicides of the year. And Now Here’s Something We Hope You’ll Really Like

In these perilous times when Americans tremble with fear that socialized medicine will soon mark the end of this great experiment in liberty we call home, Dr. Carlos Vargas has a good idea. He is creating a health clinic in Franklin to assist people with and without insurance. The…

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

About a week ago, Buncombe County raised fines for violation of the new stormwater ordinance from $5000 to $25,000/day. (Check out the monkey here.) Today, the City of Asheville introduced . . . On-Call Service for Emergency Sediment and Erosion Violations. Beginning…
