  • Now what would the Gang of 88 say about this?

If the Duke lacrosse rape hoax was “the perfect storm” of race, gender, and class, then what is this? Three UNC football players were the victims in a kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault incident involving two women, the university confirmed Thursday afternoon. For now, I’ll just echo the…

  • Correction: WPTF quote was not by Taylor Zarzour

I received a note from Taylor Zarzour in reference to my post this morning, the salient portion being: I did NOT say that on air this morning nor do I believe it. Our Executive Producer, Mark Shiver is the one that did. Since I don’t know how to post the audio on this site I will gladly email it to anyone that would like to hear who said what. Mr. Zarzour, I apologize for my misattribution of what I heard on WPTF this morning (audio is below). The reason for my post was not to smear you (or Mark Shiver) but to react to what I heard, the idea expressed. The radio was background noise to me until I heard that statement, and since it was your purview and since there was talk about you having more to say about it in the next hour, I thought you were the one responsible for the idea. I truly regret the misattribution and have adjusted the offending post forthwith. Update: Here is an mp3 of the morning's discussion:

  • I should have guessed

Professional race-baiter Barry Saunders — who has made a fool of himself before with his knee-jerk habit of implying racism whenever a black coach isn’t hired — has indeed played the race card over Duke’s choice in football coach. Did he think the “brothers” (Saunder’s…

  • WPTF: Duke should have hired a black football coach because of racial tension last year

Note: This entry has been changed for reasons listed above. Just before 8 a.m. this morning, someone on WPTF criticized Duke University for not hiring a black football coach1 instead of David Cutcliffe. Specifically, this person touted the candidacy of Grambling State coach Rod Broadway, former N.C. Central head…

  • Absinthe is legal again in the U.S.

It’s well past due. Another prohibition falls. I have amended my Christmas list accordingly. These articles will tell you more — although they credit different people for the reversal of the century-old ban. Salut!…

  • Cary Wal-Mart1 makes national news for selling slutty panties to girls

Per Fox: Suggestive pink Santa panties targeting young girls are being removed from Wal-Mart stores after parents objected to the offensive undergarments. The panties, which were sold in the juniors department, seemed to suggest that girls don’t need money, they just need a sugar daddy — in…

  • Crime fighting, the YouTube effect

This cracked me up: When a robber started taking cash from his register over the weekend, Dunkin’ Donuts employee Dustin Hoffmann fought back by clobbering the man with a ceramic mug. But Hoffmann admits he was less worried about the stolen cash than how he might look on the…

  • It happened again

Everyone, please remember (write it on your arm if you have to): Don’t get tattooed in a language you yourself cannot read. Otherwise you risk suffering this poor girl’s fate: Something similar happened to poor Nikki, who asked that she have her name rendered in Chinese…
