After I exposed some troubling issues with the proposed social studies glossary developed by N.C. Department of Public Instruction curriculum staff, the State Board of Education (SBE) delayed their vote on the glossary and asked curriculum staff to go back to the drawing board.  On June 17, the SBE will meet to discuss the revised glossary and presumably vote to approve it.

Unlike the previous draft glossary, the new version provides citations for each of the definitions.  Most of those definitions appear to come from reputable sources.  The definition for “American exceptionalism” no longer contains an erroneous statement about Ronald Reagan, although I still take issue with the definition provided.

The bottom line is that the new glossary is an improvement.
