March 27, 2020, saw this from Gov. Roy Cooper:

Governor Roy Cooper ordered people in the state of North Carolina to stay at home for thirty days, until April 29, 2020, in another step to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Governor Cooper’s Executive Order No. 121 takes effect on Monday, March 30 at 5:00 PM and reduces the size of gatherings to 10 people. The Order provides for essential businesses to continue to operate while prioritizing social distancing measures. The Order has the force of law and will be enforced in all 100 counties statewide. …

Did we slow the spread? Yes. Oh? Who says? Gov. Roy Cooper, on multiple occasions:

Nevertheless, Cooper didn’t reopen the state as promised but instead extended his lockdown and issued his “phases” plan, which he also didn’t honor, nor did he honor his own metrics for reopening and lifting personal and business restrictions.

Now he simply refuses to answer journalists’ questions about metrics for reopening and lifting personal and business restrictions (AP reporter Bryan Anderson, News and Observer reporter Dawn B. Vaughn, and WNCN reporter Michael Hyland):

Incidentally, given the growing research literature about greater physical and mental health damages and deaths from lockdowns, the week that following Cooper’s lockdown was the first week that North Carolina saw above-average deaths not even counting Covid deaths. Analysis found that from July till the end of data reporting from DHHS, causes other than the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic were more responsible for NC’s “significant increase in deaths” than was COVID-19.
