Trump’s Choice at CPAC on Sunday: Payback or Policy

Conservative political junkies looking ahead to the 2024 presidential race will have plenty to digest over the next several days as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is held in Florida. North Carolina will be represented on Friday’s schedule, as the screen shot below shows.

But it’s Sunday at 4:30 p.m. that is, understandably, getting the media attention. Why? Because former President Trump will speak. Here’s what Axios reports they’ve learned.

A longtime adviser called Trump’s speech a “show of force,” and said the message will be: “I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge.” Payback is his chief obsession.

If true, is that the wise approach to take if your goal is to unite conservatives? Carolina Journal’s Dallas Woodhouse has spent years in politics and public policy. He talked with Locke’s Mitch Kokai about his advice for the former president. Will it be payback, or policy?

While some conservatives feel at home in today’s Republican party, others have talked about breaking away and forming a third party. Mitch and Dallas talked about whether that’s realistic.

For now, it’s all speculation. I can’t wait to hear Dallas’ assessment of what Mr. Trump says on Sunday.
