The move from Airbnb comes shortly after Gov. Roy Cooper increased COVID-19 restrictions throughout the state, as effective Friday, Dec. 11, 2020. Airbnb stated that the ban on these properties is part of a larger global initiative to ban parties at Airbnbs during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to the 20 homes in Charlotte, Airbnb has suspended 17 homes in the Triad according to the Greensboro News & Record.
