A recent essay provided as examples of reclaiming civil society: “an independent voter organizing project…[that] ultimately elected a progressive woman as a county commissioner in a conservative rural county.”
So much for civil society as neighbors helping neighbors and the lesson of the Good Samaritan who used his own money to help a robbed man whom others left on the side of the road. Maybe the authors would have preferred the stranger to use his money so the priest and the Levite who passed by on the other side in the parable could organize their communities to get a new governor in Judea.
