JLF’s Becki Gray continues with her regular appearances on North Carolina Public Radio WUNC with host Jeff Tiberii. In her latest appearance, Becki joined Rob Schofield from the N.C. Justice Center.
In the episode, Tiberii asked his guests about the budget impasse, the possibility of Medicaid expansion, and new voting machine equipment being used by many counties.
On the voting machine matters, Becki Gray stated:
My concern with the voting machines really comes down to: “Do voters have confidence in their vote?” “Will it impact voters coming out to vote?” “And are there any questions about the integrity?”
In many of our counties, the voting equipment is 15 to 20 years old, and then you have the danger of whether or not it’s going to work…
We just want to make sure that it works to the point that we can, I don’t think there’s any voting system that is 100% guaranteed.
Rob Schofield chimed in to agree with Gray’s statements about the importance of voter confidence:
I actually agree, and I think there is a lot of reasons for people to be concerned…
Especially for machines that are connected to the Internet…
I still think paper ballots are the way to go.
