Kristy Moore, N.C. Association of Educators (NCAE): “This is a new year and it’s another chance for us as educators to put into perspective what we need to do to ensure that ALL students have a bright future. The children we serve cannot help in which zip code they live, they cannot help who their parents are, they cannot help the color of their skin, and they cannot help to which school they are assigned.”

Terry Stoops, Dude: “How do we ensure that ALL students have a bright future?  The children we serve cannot help in which zip code they live, so let’s allow them to attend a school outside of their zip code. They cannot help who their parents are, but we should still empower them to choose the school that best meets the needs of their children. They cannot help the color of their skin, but let’s talk about the issue of race in an edifying and constructive way. And they cannot help to which school they are assigned, so let’s stop using address-based assignment systems that foreclose opportunities for children in low-income neighborhoods.”
