JLF’s Jordan Roberts to Speak at CON Event at HQ Capital Club

America’s Future Foundation is hosting a panel on Certificate of Need (CON) laws in North Carolina. John Locke Foundation Health Care Policy Analyst, Jordan Roberts will be participating as a panelist. Roberts has written extensively on Certificate of Needs laws in North Carolina (see here, here, and here).

Certificate of Need (CON) is a regulation that limits health care supply unless a specific “need” is determined by state health care planners. Based on the theory that the economics of health care is unlike any other market, CON laws use central planning to try to reduce health care costs by keeping health care facilities from buying too much equipment, building too much capacity, and adding too many beds. However, CON laws in reality limit supply, increase prices, and can increase wait times.

Fellow panelist and Winston-Salem surgeon Dr. Gajendra Singh will also be there to discuss how CON laws keep him from providing low-cost care to his patients.

The event and will be August 22nd from 6-8pm at HQ Capital Club (16 W. Martin St. Raleigh, 27601 – The entrance is beside the Capital Club 16 restaurant. You may take the elevator to the 12th floor). You can learn more here, and register to attend for free here.
