Rasmussen polled 1,000 likely voters. Here’s what pollsters found:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters favor a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes over a more active one with more services and higher taxes. Thirty-two percent (32%) prefer a bigger, more expensive, more active government. Ten percent (10%) are undecided.

We’re with the 57%. At the John Locke Foundation, we believe people know better than government what’s best for themselves, for their children, and for their wallet. We want more opportunity and fewer barriers — the key ingredients to economic growth. We want every person to be free to pursue their dreams. That doesn’t mean chaos and anarchy. It means a government — federal, state, and local — that stays in its lane, providing core and essential services paid for with a fair and neutral tax policy.

The 2020 election isn’t far off. Let’s see which candidates rise to the occasion and discuss their view of government in relation to individuals. Why? Because what candidates believe is the appropriate role of government will become the law of the land if they’re elected.

Who will speak for freedom?
