Some education advocacy organizations claim that North Carolina does not fund its school equitably, that is, the state fails to provide additional funding to its highest need public school students.  But those analyses are based on local funding differentials that fail to take into account state funding, which is, by far, the largest share of funding that public school receives.

According to a new study by EdBuild that includes both state and local funding, North Carolina (and the South generally) stands apart from most states in terms of funding equity.
