In a recent edition of Quartz India, India’s former “rockstar central banker”, Raghuram Rajan, has a word of advice for the Narendra Modi government in the backdrop of its strained relations with the central bank: “the sensible government knows when to back off.” Rajan is right and his point should be heeded by all democratically elected governments. Alas, the times are few and far between when government senses it is time to back off.
