N.C. State adds doctoral specialization in social justice education

Breitbart reports that the N.C. State Teacher Education and Learning Sciences Department will add a social justice education specialization to their Ph.D. program.  A press release outlines the goal of the new program.

“The goal of the program is to help educators recognize and disrupt systems of oppression by helping to foster and create equitable learning environments,” said Jessica DeCuir-Gunby, a professor of educational psychology and Director of Graduate Programs for the Teacher Education and Learning Sciences Department.

Given that most Ph.D. programs in education are focused on social justice anyway, it seems to me that NCSU is simply formalizing it.
