One of the nation’s newest philanthropic efforts, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and one of its oldest, the Rockefeller Foundation, are accepting registrations from local, private organizations around the country with the goal of giving a million dollars each (and technical assistance) to ten of them who are making a significant difference in the lives of poor people and their communities. The Communities Thrive Challenge will be taking applications until June 12.
Who can argue with their goal to “fund, strengthen and grow local solutions that expand economic opportunity for low-income and financially insecure people” without creating another pigeonholed government program?
