The U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), released the annual Digest of Education Statistics report today.  The report includes data up to 2016.

Some of the more noteworthy factoids include,

The pupil-staff ratio in North Carolina was 8.1 in fall 2014.  It was almost identical to the national average of 8.0 students per school employee.

Between 2014 and 2026, public school enrollment is projected to increase in North Carolina by 6.1 percent.  The national average is 2.8 percent.

During the 2014-15 school year, there were 2,754 incidents of weapons possession, which is a rate of 178 incidents per 100,000 students.  That is higher than the national average of 124 incidents per 100,000 students.

Speaking of school discipline, across all categories, there were 4,482 incidents per 100,000 students in North Carolina, which is much higher than the national average of 2,583 incidents per 100,000.
