I know I’m in the minority, but my heart sank when I saw today that Raleigh’s made the top 20 list for Amazon’s HQ2 site.  If they came without bribes, I’d be delighted to have Amazon in the area.  Obviously, the company is strong and they’d bring tons of jobs.  I’ve known a number of Amazon employees in the past, and I’d definitely call them a good employer.

But we know that HQ2 will require enormous amounts of corporate welfare – handouts from taxpayers to an enormous, very wealthy corporation.  That’s not a good deal, as I wrote late last year.

Amazon says these 20 cities, including Raleigh, are moving on to the next step in the selection process.  How much is that next step going to cost us?  Just stop, already.  The sooner this whole thing ends and we stop throwing money at Amazon, the better.
