Is it me, or do these incentive packages just keep getting bigger?  The Triad Business Journal is reporting today on a report that North Carolina and Alabama are the two finalists for a new Toyota-Mazda plant.  And then they talk about the possible sites, all of which have already received taxpayer support to some degree.  But the kicker comes at the end, the last line of the article, which reads, oh so casually, “The joint venture will likely require an incentive package of $1 billion or more.”

$1 billion.  With a B.  We give out so much to so many, that we seem to have lost sight of just how much money we’re talking about.
