But—as the High Point Enterprise puts it— “what this will look like — and whether it will involve Guilford County — is not clear.”

Note however the City Council’s 8-1 vote— the lone ‘no’ vote was council member Cynthia Davis–who has consistently questioned the city’s ‘fly by the seat of our pants’ planning on this project—also authorized “borrowing up to $5 million from the city’s landfill fund to pay for demolition, remediation, site preparation and architectural services related to the proposed stadium site.”

This fits right in with one of JLF’s major concerns over tax increment financing— or really any government borrowing for entertainment projects such as stadiums— is that such plans divert funding from core services such as sanitation.
