News & Record reports Guilford County Schools Superintendent Sharon Contreras announced at last night school board meeting that GCS has been accepted into the Public Education Leadership Project at Harvard University.

As you can probably imagine, such lofty leadership training is not free, so where will the money come from?

Say Yes to Education, a major nonprofit partner of Guilford County Schools, is providing the money for its employees to receive the ongoing professional development.

This comes on the heels of news earlier in the year that Say Yes will drastically reduce the number of scholarships because–according to the N&R— the “organization’s model underestimated the average amount per student it would need to pay.” This development also comes after the N&R reported earlier this week that budget cuts will result in a “net loss” of 140 positions.

As for Say Yes—well it was treated as the greatest thing in the world when it was announced that GCS would become a partner. You know the old saying–‘if it’s too good to be true…’
