A unanimous three-judge panel of the N.C. Court of Appeals has upheld a trial court ruling in the legal fight pitting the Burlington Times-News against the Alamance County school board.

The newspaper had appealed the initial ruling, which allowed the school board to redact portions of minutes from closed-session meetings.

Appellate judges concluded that the trial judge acted properly in permitting portions of the minutes to remain hidden from public view.

Among other opinions released this morning:

  • An appellate panel split, 2-1, in upholding a lower-court ruling that blocked the N.C. Department of Public Safety from firing a prison guard who punched an inmate.
