News & Record reports Greensboro City Council member Mike Barber sent an email to his fellow council members suggesting not only that the city settle with former Police Chief David Wray over his legal expenses related to several lawsuits filed over the years.

What jumped out at me was the opinion of that brilliant legal mind, council member Nancy Hoffmann, who said “the city has no responsibility to pay legal fees for David Wray…..It’s pretty simple.”

Yeah pretty simple, considering the face that three N.C. Court of Appeals judges spent their valuable time pondering the case, with two judges siding with Wray. And— as it stands— if the city has its way, the N.C. Supreme Court will spend valuable time pondering the essential issue— whether or not the city waives its governmental immunity against lawsuits when it enters into a contract with an employee.

Pretty simple indeed.
