Henderson County Commissioner Grady Hawkins opposed going out for even more state grants for parks. A common-tater published these remarks:

Mr. Hawkins, let’s get it straight from someone who has been here 40 years and watched every one of your votes. You have never seen a project you really wanted to fund and/or have voted to fund in a miserly way. You never supported anything resembling a tree and nothing has changed now. You are Commissioner “No” and always have been. I wish there was something else you could do beside run for public office.

And thus we see how we vote ourselves into welfare statism.
