..From none other than N.C. Commerce Secretary John Skvarla, who spoke at the Better Business Bureau of Central North Carolina’s annual meeting here in Gboro:

One audience member asked Skvarla whether a car maker might one day come to the region.

Skvarla tempered his enthusiasm, reminding the group that car manufacturers may not be building as many plants here because of the European Union’s 10 percent import duty on cars made elsewhere.

He added that North Carolina can be successful if it recruits aerospace and even food manufacturing companies that employ just as many people.

“We’ve got to get away from this idea that the state of North Carolina is a failure if we don’t recruit an automobile manufacturer,” Skvarla said.

For anyone just now catching up, an automobile plant is the ideal for Greensboro-Randolph Megasite boosters.
