Also on the Buncombe County Commissioners’ agenda Tuesday was consideration of what to do with Waste Pro. The trash hauler had been in the news for not picking up trash, three commissioners allegedly had experienced gaps in service, and one public common tater even mentioned a huge sign in his neighborhood with a big pink arrow that said, “Waste Pro.”

County Manager Dr. Wanda Greene said she had been in negotiations, and an action plan had been developed. She read the terms twice, but what’s really important is the streets are crawling with Waste Pro trucks this morning. I hadn’t seen anything like it since all the cruisers came out of the woodwork when Bill Hogan became Asheville’s police chief.

And so, I wanted to give a happy shout-out to the happy haulers. I love second chances.
