Higher education is a big target for activists who want to transform America into the country they want (or at least think they want). The sustainability movement attracts both red and green authoritarians who are absolutely certain that they know how to make everyone else live properly, so as to avoid global catastrophe. Over the last ten years or so, they have made considerable inroads into the college curriculum and the way schools are run.
In today’s Pope Center piece, I write about a report on the sustainability movement published by the National Association of Scholars. The authors show that the movement is antithetical to real education; it aims to turn colleges and universities into the equivalent of madrassas for the spreading of their environmental religion.
