Let’s keep these undesirable companies, Boeing, Michelin, BMW, Mercedes, KIA and others out of NC.  We don’t want those high paying jobs that require an education here.  Let’s be the fast food capital of the south, serving all those Yankees passing through. You far righters are right on.

This is the full text of an email I recently received in response to my most recent newsletter where I argued that subsidized investment is not just a direct tax on existing businesses but a hidden tax due to what economists call “the crowding out effect.” What is particularly fun for me about this note is that I get attacked as “a far righter” and also implicitly as “one of those Yankees” without a single mention of the actual argument that the newsletter is making.
