Todd Warren is just your average teacher chosen to comment on Senate Bill 480, a bill that would limit the political activities of public school employees during school hours.

Well, that is the impression one would get by reading this story by the News & Record, which identified Warren only as a Spanish teacher at Guilford Elementary School.

Had N&R reporter Joe Killian identified Warren as an activist for left wing groups, it would have changed the dynamic of the story.  Warren goes from being an ordinary teacher to someone who has an incentive to oppose a bill that would limit the amount of political activity he could conduct during school hours.

Near the end of the piece, Warren points out that teachers “aren’t the most politically active people anyway.”  That is true and he is the exception.
