The N.C. General Assembly increased teacher pay. But changes to the structure of the salary schedule make it difficult for taxpayers to understand the dynamics of the raise.

Below is a comparison of Wake County’s 2013-14 and 2014-15 teacher salary schedules.  The annual salary listed includes the local salary supplement, which is one of the state’s largest, so it is not representative of the average North Carolina district.  In addition, the schedule does not include supplements for National Board Certification or advanced degrees.

Note: Budget legislation includes a held harmless clause. Teachers will receive the greater of the

1) Amount specified on the 2014-15 salary schedule below, or

2) The sum of the teacher’s 2013-14 salary plus the annual longevity payment plus an annual bonus of $1,000.
