In this piece, economics professor Walter Block clashes with economists who want to raise the minimum wage. What I find particularly good is his discussion of the ethics of the minimum wage, however. Advocates of the minimum wage make it sound as though it’s just a matter of regular government policy, sort of like changing the speed limit on a road. Not so — the minimum wage is an exercise of the coercive power of government in a way that’s morally objectionable.
