It appears that some liberals cannot get the numbers straight in their head.  Let’s review.

The truth about teacher salaries in North Carolina is that most teachers receive a salary supplement from their local school district in addition to their state-mandated base salary (PDF).  According to the NC Department of Public Instruction, the average supplement was $3,550 last year.  Three school districts (Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Wake, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg) had supplements that exceed $6,000 per teacher.

Teachers also receive thousands of dollars in benefits that, this year, include the following:

Social Security: $3,143
Retirement: $6,035
Hospitalization: $5,285

Unfortunately, we will not have a productive discussion about teacher salaries in this state so long as well-funded advocacy groups on the Left insist on telling half-truths.
