Sandra Fluke will give NARAL Pro-Choice NC keynote speech

Sandra Fluke – demonized by conservatives and sainted by women’s rights groups when she became a controversial figure in the debate over insurance coverage for contraception – will speak in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night.

She will be the keynote speaker at NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina’s annual Susan Hill Award winner, which this year goes to Jan Allen of Chapel Hill. The $100-a-ticket event will be at the West End Public event space.

Fluke is a Georgetown Law School graduate whom Republicans blocked from testifying in Congress on the contraceptives coverage issue last year. Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh called her a “prostitute” and a “slut.”

She has since emerged as an advocate for women’s issues.

Notice how the word “abortion” never appears in stories about pro-choice groups? It is never pointed out that NARAL means National Abortion Rights Action League. Even NARAL’s website avoids spelling out the acronym, calling itself, instead, NARAL Pro-Choice America.
