According to the NC Department of Public Instruction, North Carolina’s 107 charter schools had a record 50,001 students in average daily membership (ADM) this school year.  Charters enrolled 45,388 students last year.

The three largest charter schools in North Carolina are:

  1. Franklin Academy (Wake) – 1,624 students
  2. Pine Lake Preparatory (Iredell) – 1,599 students
  3. Lake Norman Charter (Mecklenburg) – 1,594 students

The median enrollment at a North Carolina charter school is 373 students.

Thirteen charter schools have over 1,000 students.

Five charter schools have fewer than 100 students.

Water’s Edge Village School is the smallest.  Fifteen students are enrolled at the school, which opened this year and is located on the Outer Banks.
