I received the 2011-12 community college remediation rates. They ain’t pretty.
The overall remediation rate remained at 65 percent for students enrolling at a North Carolina community college immediately after graduation. (Note: These are not returning adults or those participating in job training courses.)
According to the data, 65 percent of students enrolled in one or more remedial, also known as “developmental,” courses. Sixty-four percent of incoming students enrolled in a developmental math course. In language arts, 48 percent of students enrolled in developmental English, while 32 percent were required to enroll in developmental reading.
