Congratulations to the 73 North Carolina high schools recognized by U.S. News and World Report in their annual ranking of the nation’s best high schools.  According to U.S. News, the top ten high schools in North Carolina were as follows:

1. Hopewell High School, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (#663 nationally)

2. Manteo High School, Dare County Schools (#863 nationally)

3. Needham Broughton High School, Wake County Schools (#966 nationally)

4. Jordan Matthews High, Chatham County Schools (#1158 nationally)

5. A C Reynolds High, Buncombe County Schools (#1246 nationally)

6. Northwest Cabarrus High, Cabarrus County Schools (#1278 nationally)

7. Enka High, Buncombe County Schools (#1485 nationally)

8. Saint Stephens High, Catawba County Schools (#1578 nationally)

9. Concord High, Cabarrus County Schools (#1682 nationally)

10. Garinger-Math/Science, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (#1702 nationally)

Rankings were based on four factors: teacher/student ratio, college readiness (Advanced Placement), Algebra I proficiency, and English I proficiency.
