The Watauga TDA accepted a $75,000 grant from the NC Recreation Trails Program for the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Tourists taxed without representation will pay the 18,750 match. Funds will go toward refurbishing two miles of the trail that have been influenced by nature, and building a parking lot, an information kiosk, and 700 new feet of trail.
Lest we be swift to ask what business the teacher laying-off state has sprucing up trails, the Mountain Times informs us:
The RTP grant program is managed by the state, but is a federal assistance program of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration.
