The nation’s second and third presidents visited Raleigh last night to debate significant political issues that still impact American life 200 years after John Adams and Thomas Jefferson served as the “chief magistrate” of the United States.

The John Locke Foundation and N.C. History Project sponsored this “living history” event at the N.C. Museum of History. In the video clip below, Adams and Jefferson answer a question from a self-described “wage earner” who asks how much government should be able to take from his income in taxes. The answer addresses such topics as taxation and deficit spending.
