What do the Democrats fundraising for former Mayor PatMcCrory know that we don’t?

These aren’t fly by night types with  just enough money to make them dangerous who don’t know how to read polls or the political climate. The Democrats raising dough for McCrory, a Republican, know better. These are people who backed former Democrat governors Jim Hunt and Mike Easley, people like George Jones, former mayor of Jacksonville:

It’s absolutely nothing personal,” said Jones, a registered Democrat who helped get Hunt elected. Jones estimated that one-third of the 40 people at the fundraiser were Democrats. “Bev has swung hard to the left,” he continued. “I can’t support her policies and the direction she’s pursuing for this state.”

This Perdue turkey will be put out of its misery in November.

Seasoned politicos like this don’t neglect to back someone like Perdue over petty issue differences. If they are backing him, they are betting she won’t or can’t win, even with a tidal wave of Obama money flowing into the state. It could be because of stuff like this (US News: Why North Carolina’s Perdue Is the Most Endangered Governor), which details the bizarre gaffes Perdue keeps making that leave even sympathizers scratching their heads. And this poll:

A High Point University poll released this week shows Governor Perdue with 37 percent approval and 46 percent disapproval—effectively wiping out the small bump she received from her response to Hurricane Irene—despite Democrats outnumbering Republicans, as of Wednesday, by 775,459 registered voters.

Granted, Perdue should be beatable. Her only accomplishments include a tax increase during the highest unemployment period since the Great Depression and signing the racially divisive Racial Justice Act that could free almost all of death row, a policy so radical that even California couldn’t pass it.

But McCrory is the only candidate who could screw this up badly enough to put her back in office. It’s not that he’s incompetent as a politician. Far from it.

It’s that he won’t take the gloves off. Had he in the last election, when she was mercilessly pummeling him day and night, I’m convinced he would have won.

Earth to Pat: Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemployment period since Great Depression, Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemployment period since Great Depression, Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemployment period since Great Depression.

It’s that easy. But Pat will no doubt worry what the country clubbers at Quail Hollow and Myers Park will think, forgetting that all is forgotten and forgiven when you win.

And to those of you who will inevitably bash me for hoping Pat puts Perdue out of her misery, I have only this to say …. Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemplyment period since Great Depression, Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemplyment period since Great Depression, Freed death row, tax increase during worst unemplyment period since Great Depression ….
