During the October 18, 2011, Council Meeting, Mayor Meeker stated the NAACP is holding its first Institute in Raleigh next March. He talked about the possibility of the City of Raleigh being a presenting sponsor which would require a $5,000 donation. He asked that the item be placed on this agenda for consideration of making an appropriation of $5,000 to be a presenting sponsor.

If you disagree with this appropriation, you should contact Mayor Meeker and other members of the Raleigh City Council TODAY. Let them know of your strong disapproval.
I know that Mayor Meeker and his allies do not think in terms of opportunity cost, but they need to consider how core functions of government – police, fire, emergency response, etc. – could use these funds to enhance services to city residents.
