Patsy Christian is back in the news. According to the News & Observer,
The infamous portrait
Patsy Christian, former head of the old John Umstead and Dorothea Dix state psychiatric hospitals, was named assistant director
for heathcare quality and safety in the Division of Health Services Regulation. Christian was a newsmaker back in 2008, when it was reported she used $250 in money intended for patient benefits to pay for a portrait of herself painted by a subordinate. Her plan was to hang the portrait in Central Regional Hospital, then under construction, but she stepped down in June 2008, about a month after news broke about the portrait.
