De-Occupy Raleigh

The Raleigh Capitol Police Department told the handful of protesters aka “Occupy Raleigh” to remove their tarps, coolers, and camp chairs from the sidewalk on Morgan Street. Jon Ham, Don Carrington, and I walked to the site and an RPD a Capitol officer said homeless people were taking food from the coolers and camping out there after the protesters had to abandon the spot nightly. A couple of video clips I shot with my iPhone follow.

Fewer than 10 people were on the site when I walked by there around 1 p.m. About two dozen were there at 3. They were quiet until the TV crews arrived.

UPDATE, 4:55 p.m. The @OccupyRaleigh Twitter feed is reporting that eight people have been arrested for failing to vacate the area. One of the persons threatened with arrest is allegedly a disabled woman.
