Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue and her Commerce Department team are trading barbs with Republican legislative leaders over who’s to blame for Continental Tire’s decision to add a projected 1,000 new jobs or more in South Carolina, rather than Brunswick County.

Senate leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, made his case during an afternoon news conference. Berger also referenced the need to re-examine the state’s incentives program, citing the problems created generally by deals targeting individual companies.
