House Bill 366, Special Election Dates will be heard on the House floor tonight.  The first of two votes are expected.  This bill would require that special elections, like one for a local sales tax hike could only be held on the same day of a General Election or a Municipal election.  What we’ve seen in the past is some local governments who really want the sales tax to pass scheduling that vote on an off day, when the turnout is low and select.  Often the tax increase is unwarranted, unneeded, unfair and unnecessary. At least the vote should be fair. This bill will help ensure that. Kudos to Representatives Harry Warren (R-Rowan), George Cleveland (R-Onslow), Bill Brawley (R-Mecklenburg and Glenn Bradley (R-Franklin) for sponsoring House Bill 366.
