Over at the Corner on National Review Online, author Michael Walsh–sometimes known by his pseudonym David Kahane–remarks on the death of Osama bin Laden.

It seems that there has been a growing sense on the right–or in any case, in the pages of National Review–that Islam is incompatible with Western-style democracy. Andy McCarthy, for one, has written two books on the subject. The Pope Center has even had something to say about it. However, the tension is not often spelled out so starkly as Walsh did today (italics mine):

Bin Laden’s demise will not in itself end the War on Terror, but if we can build on it, it can mark the beginning of the end of this phase of the eternal conflict between Islam and the West by plainly showing the Islamic world which horse is still stronger.
