Now that former N.C. House Speaker Jim Black is out of prison, he’s granted television interviews in which he offers a new spin on the corruption charges that put him behind bars. Rick Henderson discusses Black’s comments during the next edition of Carolina Journal Radio.

You’ll also hear highlights from Texas congressman Ron Paul’s recent visit to N.C. State University, and Troy Kickler will explain why the N.C. History Project has opened a satellite office in Edenton.

Plus we’ll feature a couple of recent legislative debates. One focuses on Phoebe’s Law, a bill with widespread bipartisan support. It calls for creation of a pilot program to place speed cameras in highway work zones and school zones across the state.

The second debate, which has generated more controversy, focuses on a bill that would block the N.C. Department of Transportation from accepting federal stimulus money for high-speed rail without legislative approval. Rep. Ric Killian makes the case for the bill, while Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx opposes it.
