A few hours after the General Assembly ratified a bill linking an extension in unemployment benefits to a continuing budget resolution (should the legislature and Gov. Bev Perdue be at loggerheads at the end of the fiscal year), Perdue said she would veto the measure. As many as 37,000 North Carolinians may miss unemployment checks until she agrees to a measure extending those benefits.

Earlier this week, Perdue called the bill “extortion.” We’ll see how this plays out, but it’s clear some Christmas card lists recently have grown shorter.
