The N.C. Supreme Court has reversed a lower court ruling in a case involving a fired Fletcher police officer and his legal representation. The high court ruled that communications among officer Timothy Foxx, his attorney, the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, and the N.C. Police Benevolent Association were protected by the attorney-client privilege — even though those communications involved more than just one client and attorney.

Foxx was fired from his job in 2007 and had a federal lawsuit against the town and police chief Langdon Raymond thrown out of court in 2008. This ruling deals with a later state lawsuit Raymond filed against the associations and an association leader.
